Kathy Erlandson, Executive Director of Interfaith Works, led members and guests through a volunteer recognition activity, noting that the activities and events of Interfaith Works happen because of the energy and commitment of over 600 volunteers, many of whom volunteer for multiple projects.

guest speakers – camp quixote

Pastor Mark Dowdy, Leah Wilson, and Randy Williams spoke to members and guests about Camp Quixote and the ways they have faced challenges, grown, and seen success in the people that live in community in Camp Quixote. Pastor Mark reflected that “people who thought they couldn’t host Camp Quixote, learned that they could,” and talked about the needs and growth of the Camp. Leah from First Christian Church shared about the blessings being a part of this work has been for her and her faith community. She also shared excerpts from the Host Orientation and Hospitality Desk booklet she has created to help answer the questions and concerns folks have about ways they can volunteer. Randy, who has been with the camp since it started as a protest in downtown Olympia, talked about the importance of simply having a “safe place to lay his head at night,” and how the camp has helped overcome stereotypes about homelessness. He also recognized the importance of the daily involvement from volunteers.
