Interfaith Works Volunteer Opportunities
Would you be willing to volunteer, or to recruit a volunteer, to help with Interfaith Works programs? Lots of opportunities are listed below. IW office staff is ready to offer all kinds of support services to volunteers. To get involved, or to request information about any program, please call 357-7224, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. weekdays.
Recording Secretary
IW needs a new Recording Secretary because the current secretary is resigning in June. Please consider whether you or someone you know might be willing and able to serve IW this way.
Interfaith Works’ Recording Secretary is a member of the Board of Directors, serving a 2-year term (through April 30).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Attend and record minutes of Board Meetings (presently 1st Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.)
2. Attend and record minutes of Program Council Meetings and Annual Meeting (presently 3rd Tuesdays, 7-9 p.m.)
3. Provide minutes to IW staff for distribution to membership
4. At least once annually, come to IW Office to check accessibility and order of office files
Office Assistance
Volunteer needs:
- Occasional help with office tasks such as word processing, data entry, filing, organizing, sweeping, waxing
- Someone to fill in during part of the Office Manager's vacations (next vacation July 21 - August 4), answering phones, doing word processing, data entry, filing, and/or bookkeeping.
Technical Assistance
Volunteer needs:
- Someone to set up the wireless network between the 2 PCs in the IW office
- Troubleshooting PC and network problems
Volunteer needs:
- Representatives from many faith communities, laypersons and ordained, to plan and carry out the program.
- A coordinator for refreshments at the social gathering to follow the program.
- Folks to provide light refreshments
Bulk Mailing Help (year round)
IW sends over 600 pieces of bulk mail per month.
Volunteer needs: 5-6 persons to fold the newsletter at 9 a.m. on the Monday before the 3rd Tuesday of every month or to stuff envelopes occasionally as needed and available
Volunteer needs:
- Volunteer Coordinator: Recruit & schedule volunteers. Others will also assist in recruiting.
- Fundraisers/grant writers to solicit local donations to support the event
- Publicity Coordinator: Coordinate the design and distribution of fliers & posters as well as public service announcements for local broadcast media and news releases for local print media
- Web site Assistant: Keep the website up-to-date with photos & information as planning develops
- Stage Director: Schedule managers & crews for main stage, workshops, and possibly a 2nd, smaller stage.
Interfaith Works recruits member faith communities to house and staff the emergency shelter for homeless women and families for two to four week shifts. IW provides mattresses and other bedding, bus passes as needed, and employs Emergency Shelter Network to screen and refer potential clients, and provides training for volunteer shelter staff. This program, begun in 1991, provides about 500 bednights per year.
Volunteer needs:
- 3 committee members to oversee the recruiting scheduling of faith
communities and to consult on special financial expenditures. Time
commitment about 6 hours per year.
- One Shelter coordinator for each faith community.
- Two or more volunteer staff per night to host. (Training provided.)
Office Manager invites Faith Community Leaders to participate and maintains the schedule for The Olympian. The primary benefit is in public visibility and name recognition.
Volunteer needs: Recruit leaders from your faith community to write columns
The 2009 CROP Walk Committee needs volunteers to help with publicity, marketing, and with registration of walkers on the day of the Walk. Call 357-7224 or 352-9703.
Volunteer needs:
- 3 committee members to help organize the walk. Annual commitment
about 16 hours.
- One volunteer to solicit local corporate sponsors for the walk
- Faith Community Recruiters recruit & organize walkers from the faith
community
- Registration table volunteers work about 4 hours on the day of the walk
Office Manager invites Faith Community Leaders to participate and maintains the schedule for the House and the Senate.
Volunteer needs: Recruit your Faith Community Leader
