INTERFAITH AND RACE DIALOGUES
Are you curious about the spiritual paths of your neighbors, and eager to broaden your own understanding of faith? Do you want to deepen your understanding of race relations and participate in improving them? You may want to join a Study Circle for Interfaith Dialogue or a Study Circle on Race.
Study Circles on Race is a program developed by the national Study Circles Resource Center; Olympia has been holding Study Circles on Race for several years now. This program helps participants talk about race relations and racism, and how to work together for action and change. When people from diverse backgrounds and experiences are in the same group, the personal sharing can open new viewpoints and possibilities.
Study Circles for Interfaith Dialogue evolved out of the interfaith focus of Interfaith Works as a way for you to get to know your neighbors and understand their spiritual paths, and by doing so, better understand your own spiritual journey. This is done in a safe environment, with an emphasis on personal sharing rather than intellectualizing. Participants from any (or no) spiritual background are welcome in these circles.
The only requirements for either circle are curiosity, openness, respect, and a commitment to attend each session. There is no charge for the circles, which will meet once a week for 5 sessions, guided by a trained facilitator. More information on study circles in general is available from the Study Circles Resource Center at 860-928-2616 or www.studycircles.org
If you have questions or if you would like to be notified when a new round of study circles is starting, please contact the Interfaith Works office at 357-7224 (interfaith circles) or Donna Kelly at 786-9791 (Study Circles on Race).
